Pakatan Rakyat to celebrate 100 days in office

SHAH ALAM: Several trust funds for the poor, the under privileged and the elderly will be unveiled on June 20 in a celebration to commemorate Pakatan Rakyat’s first 100 days in office.
Seri Setia assemblyman Nik Nazmi Nik Ahamd said money generated from the state’s natural resources, such as sand mining, would be channelled to the funds.

Yesterday, sources told the New Straits Times that professional fund managers had been engaged by the state to manage the trust funds.

Nik Nazmi, who is the political secretary to Selangor Menteri Besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim, said a new state policy of distributing the economic wealth back to the people would also be disclosed during the celebrations.

The three-day celebrations will start on June 18 with a football match between Selangor veterans and a team selected by the menteri besar. It will be held at the Petaling Jaya City Council field at 8pm.

On June 19, all mosques, surau and madrashah in the state will hold prayers at 7.30pm. At 8pm, Khalid will be interviewed on Astro Awani.

The next day, celebrations will be held at Stadium Shah Alam, where stalls will be set up between 9am and midnight.

Khalid is scheduled to address the public at 9.15am followed by speeches from invited guests. Among them are Parti Keadilan Rakyat adviser Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, DAP chairman Lim Kit Siang and Pas president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang.

On Saturday, all state Pakatan Rakyat elected representatives will simultaneously hold ceramah in all eight districts, starting at 8.30am, to explain state policies and achievements during the 100 days.

The celebrations will end with a football match on Sunday between Selangor veterans and a team selected by the Kuala Langat District Council at the Jugra Stadium in Banting.
